Bio Pen Q2 and the Q1S share the same cartridge system. These heads carry no reservoir. Nothing is fed through the cartridge: the serum stays on the skin and the head does the needling, which is why this line is about coverage rather than capacity. They fit the Q2 and the Q1S only.
The four heads, and what each one is for
The Q2 and Q1S models offer an adjustment range of up to 1.5 mm. Consequently, the needle model determines the skin surface area covered (or the needle tip density) in a single operation. The "Nano chip," however, is an exception; as it contains no metal needles, the concept of needle extension depth does not apply.
| Head | Best for | Typical depth |
|---|---|---|
| 9-pin | Working to a line rather than an area — a crease, the edge of a scar, a narrow strip you can follow closely | 0.25–1.0 mm |
| 14-pin | The hairline head — a double-row layout for hairline work and the parting lines you follow across the scalp | 0.25–1.0 mm |
| 25-pin | The all-rounder, and the head your Q2 arrives with — whole-face passes at facial depth | 0.25–1.5 mm |
| Nano | No needles — a flat plate surface for pressing serum in, working the under-eye area, and the light finish at the end of a session | No needles |
Safe depth by concern is in our needle depth guide — at home, keep facial depth at or below 1.0 mm even though the pen will go to 1.5 mm; the deeper end of the range is for trained practitioners. Still deciding between two densities? Our cartridge guide walks the same choice through in more detail.
The 14-pin is the hairline head
Three of the four heads here differ only in how much skin one pass covers. The 14-pin differs in shape: its pins sit in a double row, so instead of laying down a round area it lays down a narrow band. That is what you want along the hairline, and down a parting line when you are working across the scalp — a place a round head cannot follow without wandering onto the face.
If your routine is mostly face with the hairline at the end, the 25-pin still does the face and the 14-pin finishes the edge. Keep the depth shallow on the scalp and use a fresh head per session, the same as anywhere else.
What a sealed Q2 pack looks like
- One sterile blister per head, with manufacturing and expiry dates printed on it.
- Single use. A head is spent when the session ends — a reused one drags rather than cutting clean channels, see can you reuse Dr. Pen cartridges?
- A listing you can verify. We are an authorised Dr. Pen retailer and stock arrives through the official supply chain — how to verify your Dr. Pen.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do these cartridges fit both the Bio Pen Q2 and the Q1S?
Yes. The Q2 and the Q1S are built on one cartridge system, so a head from this listing seats on either pen without an adapter, and it makes no difference which of the two you own. What they will not do is seat on another Dr. Pen line — the A-series, M-series and the three Hydra Pen models each use their own heads, and forcing one is how a mount gets damaged. Our cartridge compatibility guide lists which models group together if you own more than one pen.
How deep can I go with these heads on a Q2 or Q1S?
Depth is a setting on the pen, not a property of the head, and the Q2 and Q1S dial up to a maximum of 1.5 mm. The head you choose decides how much skin one pass covers, which is a separate decision from how deep that pass goes. For use at home, keep facial depth at or below 1.0 mm regardless of which head is fitted; the 1.0–1.5 mm end of the range is for trained practitioners working on a plan.
I bought the Nano head and I cannot feel anything — is it faulty?
No, that is what the Nano is. Unlike the other three heads in this listing it carries no needles at all — the skin meets a flat plate instead. So there is no puncturing sensation to feel, and there is no depth setting that will make it behave like a 25-pin. It is the head for pressing a serum into the surface and for the light finish after a needling pass, not a replacement for one. If you ordered it expecting the feel of a needling head, that expectation is the thing to change rather than the head.
Which of the four should I order if I am only ordering one?
The 25-pin. It is the middle of this range and the head your Q2 arrives with, and it covers a full face at facial depth without the extra passes the tighter heads need. Add a 14-pin if the hairline is part of your routine, a 9-pin if you like working to specific lines, and a Nano for the finish — but if it is one size to start with, the 25-pin is the one that stays in use.
Can I use these heads along the hairline and on the scalp?
Yes, and that is exactly what the 14-pin is shaped for. Because its pins sit in a double row it lays down a narrow band, which follows a hairline or a parting line more accurately than a round head can. Keep the depth shallow on the scalp, work between sections rather than across them, and fit a fresh head for the session as you would anywhere else. The wider heads still work on the scalp, they simply cover more ground per pass.
Do these heads work with the EMS and LED functions of the Q2?
Yes. The Bio Pen Q2 is a three-in-one device — needling, EMS and light — and these are the heads made for that system, so they are the correct consumable whichever combination you run. The cartridge is the part that meets your skin; what the device runs is set on the pen itself. If you only want the needling part of a session, or only the light, that is a choice you make on the device rather than a different head you need to buy.
