These cartridges are made for the Dr. Pen Ultima A7 — and for the A7 only. The A7 keeps its own cartridge line: no M-series head, no A6S head and no A8S head will seat in it, and these heads will not go onto those pens either.
Use genuine Dr. Pen cartridges only. A head that was not made for your pen does not sit tight at speed, and a head with play is how needles start dragging, results turn uneven, and the pen itself gets damaged.
What each A7 head is for
Seven heads, three jobs: fine needling for small targets, wider needling for coverage, and two nano heads for the surface at the end of a session. Depth is set on the pen, never on the head.
| Head | Best for | Typical depth |
|---|---|---|
| 9-pin | One small target at a time — a single line, one scar edge, the lip border | 0.25–0.5 mm |
| 12-pin | Face and neck work where precision matters more than speed | 0.25–1.0 mm |
| 24-pin | Full-face passes — pores, tone, diffuse texture | 0.25–1.0 mm |
| 36-pin | Body and scalp — stretch marks, larger areas, hairline work | 0.5–1.5 mm |
| 42-pin | The widest coverage in the A7 range, for the largest areas | 0.5–1.5 mm |
| Round Nano | Surface work — serum infusion, brightening, under-eye and lip border | ≤ 0.25 mm — no needles |
| 3D | The three-dimensional nano head — glides a serum over the contours of the face | ≤ 0.25 mm — no needles |
Safe depth by concern is in our needle depth guide — at home, keep facial depth at or below 1.0 mm; above 1.5 mm is for trained practitioners. Still weighing up pin counts? Our cartridge guide breaks the range down by area and coverage.
Sealed, dated, and traceable
- One head, one blister. Every cartridge is individually sealed — never a loose handful in a bag.
- Sterilised with EO gas, and labelled as such on the pack.
- Dates on every blister. Manufacturing and expiry, printed — not stickered on later.
Those three details are also the quickest way to spot a copy: counterfeits usually arrive loose and undated. We are an authorised Dr. Pen retailer and stock comes through the official supply chain. How to verify your Dr. Pen.
Using and storing them
- One head per session. Sharpness is spent in a single pass, and a dulled head drags instead of cutting clean channels — see can you reuse Dr. Pen cartridges?
- Fewer needles means more pressure per needle. At the same depth setting the 9-pin feels sharper than a 24-pin, so start lower on the small heads and build up.
- Seat it, do not force it. The head should go on with light pressure. If it resists, it is the wrong cartridge for the pen, not a stiff one.
- Skip compromised skin. No active breakouts, open or irritated skin, moles or joints. Store unopened packs dry, at room temperature, out of direct sunlight.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 9-pin cartridge used for?
The 9-pin is the tightest head in the A7 range. Nine needles touch less skin than a 24-pin, so the same depth setting puts more pressure through each needle — that concentration is what makes it the head for one line you can point at, a single scar edge, the lip border, or an isolated patch of pigment rather than the whole cheek. Most owners keep the 9-pin as a detail head and run the bulk of the face with the 24-pin.
What is the 3D head for?
It is the three-dimensional nano head in this line — a non-needle tip shaped to follow the contours of the face, used to glide a serum across the surface after needling. Round Nano is the rounded tip most people start with; 3D is the one to add if you want a head that tracks the cheek, jaw and nose-to-mouth curves instead of suiting flat areas.
My A7 shipped with 12-pin cartridges — what should I restock with?
Start where the pen started you. The 12-pin covers targeted facial work and is the simplest way to keep a routine going. Add the 24-pin if you want whole-face passes in fewer strokes, and one nano head for the finish. A 9-pin, or the 36 and 42-pin, only earn their place if you have a specific small area or a body routine to work.
Will these cartridges fit any Dr. Pen other than the A7?
No. The A7 keeps its own cartridge line and shares it with no other model — not the M-series, not the A6S, not the A8S or A11. Pin counts overlap with other pens on paper, but the fitting does not. Order the A7 heads for the A7.
Do more needles mean a more painful session?
The opposite. More needles spread the same setting over a larger contact area, so each one presses less: a 42-pin at 0.5 mm feels milder than a 9-pin at 0.5 mm. What people actually notice is depth — up to about 0.5 mm is comfortable, and discomfort climbs from there.
Can I use the 36-pin on my face?
You can, but it is not what it is for. The 36-pin and 42-pin are the body and scalp heads — stretch marks, abdomen, thighs, back, a hairline you want to cover quickly. On the face they cover ground fast but leave you less control near the eyes and the lip border, where the 9-pin and 12-pin do the job properly.
